July 12 for 12
Thursday, July 13, 2006
This idea was taken from a thread on my favorite forum. Basically, take 12 pictures on the 12th day of each month, a glimpse of your everyday life. Basically, a visual journal. Here's my 12 for July.
I wake up at 7:30 a.m., or thereabouts. For the past few weeks I have been running around 6 a.m., but we had some heavy rain until mid-morning, so I opted out for the day. I stumbled into the kitchen. Coffee welcomed me. Trust me, I look much more tired than I was.
This is just after the rain stopped, maybe around 9 a.m. Surprisingly, as wooded as it looks, our little Sherwood is surrounded by urban sprawl. It's like a thumb-shaped pocket or woodlands in the middle of a rotting suburb. Dig the flowers! My Corolla, closest to the bottom of the picture, rocks my face off.
So, it's raining. Let's get some laundry done....
...and shave and shower, somehow taking a MySpace photo in the process (and feeling guilty about it all day).
Well, it's around 11. I have to be at work at 1:30, so I decide to spend some time on the porch, enjoy the cool breeze, and write my book a bit. I'm pulling a Wendell Berry with this one.
On the way to work. My radio was working today; the wiring is really messed up, so it jolts to live every so often. My MP3 player--which I only use in the car and when running--is loaded with Versus and Vigilantes of Love tracks. Great music for the drive. I need to put gas in the car, though. Something to do after work.
It was busy at work (one of my jobs is at Borders Express). I was the manager on duty. We were busy on and off, with enjoy customers to keep me busy. That's my co-worker Sheldon. Note: the Kids sign is on the wrong side of the store. Great job, sign putter-uppers! I gave him a ride home after work, since he doesn't have his driver's license. On the way back....

Back home, on Ranch Panella. I have a weird quirk about eating food at the mall, so my folks had dinner ready for me when I got back, even though it was after 10:30 at night. We've had salads for dinner since, well, as far back as I could remember. The spaghetti and (homemade) meatballs, plus bread, was great. Also of note--my beverage (Pious Monk Dunkel ale, made by Church Brew Works--from Pittsburgh!); reading from Proverbs (I was on chapter 27); Annie Dillard for the rest of the night.
My good friend Rachel Zylstra called. Don't talk to her on the phone much. Oh yeah, buy her CD.
Saying "good night!" to the folks. They're watching Red Dawn, for some reason. Jennifer Grey looked funny back then. And now.
